Karla Sosa, Manager for the New York – New Jersey State Affairs Team at Environmental Defense Fund, brings experience at the intersection of policy, research, and coalition building. A scientist by training, she incorporates her knowledge into policy decisions and aims for a future where systems of government and decision-making are more just.

Karla’s work centers on outreach that ensures local stakeholders and community members see their needs reflected in state laws and regulations. Her research and press have focused on opportunities to expand climate action and mitigate air pollution across New York and New Jersey.

Prior to her work at the Environmental Defense Fund, Karla taught and held several positions at New York University and Duke University, along with research positions at the International Potato Center in Lima, Peru, as well as The New York Botanical Garden, Mount Sinai Medical Center, and the Earth Institute. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Biology from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in Biology from Duke University. Karla grew up in Mexico City and now lives in Harlem, NYC.
